On Guarantees, Ethics, and How We Approach Stud Service

One of the most common questions we receive from breeders inquiring about our stud service is whether we offer “guarantees.” This question often leaves us both uncomfortable and genuinely concerned, and we believe it deserves a clear, thoughtful response.
When working with live animals, reproduction, and breeding, there are no guarantees—ever. Breeding is not a transactional process; it is a biological one. No matter how experienced, knowledgeable, or prepared a breeder may be, every breeding decision carries inherent risk. Anyone who has been in this field long enough understands this truth.
Reproduction is not something we control. At best, we guide, prepare, and support the process using science, experience, and best practices. At worst—and inevitably at times—despite doing everything correctly, failure still occurs. Loss, missed breedings, and unexpected outcomes are part of responsible breeding. If a breeder has not experienced setbacks yet, it is not a matter of if, but when.
For this reason, we believe that breeders seeking guarantees are simply in the wrong business.
Why We Do Not Offer Guarantees
We have reviewed contracts and stud advertisements from many kennels over the years. Some contain promises that are unrealistic and, in our view, written primarily to entice potential partners rather than reflect biological reality.
We will not make promises a breeder cannot keep.We do not structure our program around what other breeders do (or say that they will do), nor around what a buyer may want to hear. We have developed our own system—one rooted in science, experience, common sense, and ethics—and we do not deviate from it to secure a deal.
Honesty matters to us—toward our partners, our buyers, and ourselves.
So we will state this clearly and without exception:
There are no guarantees in breeding. Ever.
Experience, Risk, and Responsibility
Even with extensive testing, careful selection, ideal timing, and expert veterinary involvement, breeding can still fail. This is a reality every ethical breeder must be prepared to face.
We have experienced losses ourselves. We also know many respected kennels—more than a dozen—who have faced the same. Responsible breeders accept these risks when making breeding decisions and celebrate success when it occurs, knowing it is never owed or guaranteed.
What We Can Guarantee
We can guarantee the following:
Our studs are in excellent health
They receive regular veterinary care, including current physical exams
They have complete blood work panels
They undergo semen analysis and Breeding Soundness Evaluations (BSE) at least once every 12 months
Semen quality, count, and post-thaw results are within recommended breed standards
We are fully transparent and provide documentation upon request.
What a stud owner Cannot Guarantee
Stud owner cannot and will not guarantee:
Fertility, ovulation timing, or reproductive health of the female
Presence or absence of infections, uterine conditions, or vaginal bacteria
The quality or accuracy of insemination procedures (this depends entirely on the attending veterinarian)
Prenatal care, safety, nutrition, stress levels, or environmental conditions during pregnancy
Females may resorb fetuses if they are stressed, unsafe, or nutritionally deficient
These factors are outside of our control, and it would be unethical to claim otherwise.
Our Stud Service Terms
When engaging in stud service with us, the following terms apply:
We provide full transparency, including our veterinarian’s information and the most recent semen analysis results.
Stud service payment is due in full upfront. No exceptions.
Upon receipt of payment, we provide live cover to approved females or release semen as agreed.
For collected semen, the buyer is responsible for all collection and shipping costs, coordinated directly with our veterinarian.
The buyer is responsible for arranging shipment to their veterinarian or location.
A Final Note on Compatibility
We understand that our terms may not align with breeders seeking guaranteed outcomes. In such cases, we respectfully ask that you do not contact us.
We are not willing to compromise our ethics, philosophy, or integrity to generate income or make promises we know cannot be upheld. Clear communication, transparency, and mutual respect are far more valuable to us than any single breeding.
This is how we work.
These are the values we stand by.
And we will not apologize for them.
